Do I have to use the new "Upload Selfie" feature?
Yes, according to new DHS regulations as of May 28, 2025, you are required to upload a selfie photo to continue with your ESTA application.
Make sure that the selfie is not a copy of the passport photo. If you submit the same photo, the application will be cancelled.
For accurate results, capture the entire face so that only the head and shoulders are visible.
- Use a color photo on a plain background.
- No sunglasses, hats or masks are allowed.
- Do not use filters or make edits.
What if I am applying for an ESTA for someone else?
You must have a selfie according to the specifications in order for it to be validated and not canceled. It is necessary to have the photo at the time of application as you will not be able to move forward without the new selfie photo.
